Duo Tiggarna

Colin and Anne-Sophie met while studying early music (baroque violin and viola da gamba) at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon (CNSMDL) in 2017. They share a common interest in finding a variety of sounds on their respective instruments, but also in making them sound good together, particularly through the rich repertoire of traditional music that Colin has always played with. The duo met through early music, but their rural origins (in the Hautes-Alpes and the Perche regional nature park) have enriched their exchanges and strengthened their interest in popular music, firstly in their respective regions, and then in popular music in the global sense of the term.

Their love of these different repertoires, as well as their constant versatility between traditional and learned music, led to the creation of the Tiggarna duo, drawing on the eclectic experience of each in the development of this project. The nyckelharpa and the viola da gamba complement each other perfectly, both in their melodic and harmonic playing styles and in their resonant character, offering an infinite range of tonal colours and creating a whole new world of sound, both in traditional Swedish music and in other repertoires.
