A-F-R-O

United States

A-F-R-O, real name James Guitierrez, started writing his first rhymes at just 11 years old, and was relatively invisible in the rap scene during his very early years. But things changed at the age of 16 when he decided to take part in a competition organised by R.A. the Rugged Man to put young rappers in the spotlight.
Talib Kweli, Murs, Vinnie Paz and R.A. the Rugged Man had to choose a winner. A-F-R-O crushed the competition.

A-F-R-O is one of those rappers with incredible technique and punch. His freestyles on the internet have earned him the respect of the likes of Rakim, Big Daddy Kane and DJ Premier. After collaborating with the latter, he went on to record with Marco Polo and embark on a world tour.

In 2025, these few years of scouring international stages have made him one of the most exciting showmen on the indie hip hop scene.
