KOKOKO!

After five European tours, the KOKOKO! collective is back in a new guise for its 2022 tour, representing Kinshasa by night, its rhythmic soundscapes set against a backdrop of traffic smoke and generator noise. This time it’s Xavier Thomas, aka Débruit, and performer and self-proclaimed “lord of the ambience” Makara Bianko, who bring their musical fire to the stage, inspired by endless electronic loops distorted by smoking amps and speakers cranked up to 200% to support Makara Bianko’s powerful vocals.
The layers of sound coming from instruments built from scratch break musical codes more than ever, giving us the sounds of the ghetto and inner-city clubs. These are the sounds of a raw, free modernity, inventing everything from scratch and singing the reality of the streets of Kinshasa.
