Female quartet of post-punk trans tropical bass for children, violin, prose in Latvian… The four daughters of Massicot (including Simone Aubert, the lithium drummer from Hyperculte, here on guitar) have an approach to amplified music that is atypical to say the least. Its purpose, on the other hand, is quite familiar: halfway between the Africa-focused improvisations of The Ex and the deflagration concertos of Sonic Youth, it leads to states of trance of such amplitude as to make the dance of Saint-Guy seem like a round of Saint-Vincent. Beware the darlings, it’s going to cut.
