Maraudeur + LICE
In partnership with Le Sonic
At Periscope, we sometimes dream of fantastic alliances. It doesn’t happen that often, and it doesn’t always work. And then: in time, a turning point – perhaps the convergence of struggles – suddenly makes it plausible, achievable, even downright obvious. Such is the case with this evening, which we are delighted to be organising in association with Le Sonic.
Over the last few months, Le Sonic has been going through an unprecedented situation that is jeopardising its existence and, with it, the survival of Lyon’s musical underground. This concert is not, strictly speaking, a ‘support concert’, but any occasion is a good one to remember that Le Sonic (18 years of existence in 2024) has been through a lot, but has never been threatened with closure as much as it is today. There are currently several appeals for help to repair the hull of its boat. Without this, the barge will probably have to close next summer.
Let’s not take anything for granted: our places (and those of our neighbours and friends) are spaces to be defended.
Maraudeur
MARAUDEUR is a disconcerting retro-futurist mix of 70s New York no-wave, Rough Trade art-punk and 80s mechanical coldwave, with a resolutely modern sound that blurs the boundaries of time. With lyrics in English, German and French, the band creates a bridge between yesterday and tomorrow. Can you feel uncomfortable, comforted and ready to dance at the same time? The answer is yes.
LICE
LICE are an experimental rock quartet based in Bristol. At the end of September, they released their new album, ‘Third Time At The Beach’, on the AD 93 label, which is also home to artists such as Overmono, Loraine James and Avalon Emerson. This conceptual album, divided into three parts, explores the human struggle to better understand the world around us, oscillating between rock, techno and minimalism.
After playing major UK festivals such as Reading & Leeds, Green Man and End Of The Road, the band embarked on a tour of Europe and the UK.
