Raphael Rogiński + Cucina Povera
Raphael Rogiński is a guitarist, composer and performer, improviser, agitator and researcher in musical folklore. Trained in jazz and classical music, he has also broadened his training to include musicology and ethnomusicology.
The guitar playing on his latest albums Talán (an ode to the Black Sea) and Žaltys is graceful and meditative, with a nod to American primitivism. Pitchfork: “Over the past fifteen years, Rogiński has developed a singular and unmistakable style on solo electric guitar. His playing is all restraint, but his fingering can give us the impression of hearing four hands working in tandem; it’s sometimes hard to believe there are no overdubs (doubling a track).”
Cucina Povera is the solo project of Luxembourg-Finland musician Maria Rossi. Taking its name from the Italian culinary concept that emphasizes the use of a small number of simple ingredients, Cucina Povera creates otherworldly music from layered voices and electronics, melodies and harmonic drones.
Its concerts are organized as part of Better Live, a project co-financed by the European Union’s Creative Europe program.
