Sahra Halgan
Sahra Halgan is an iconic artist from Somaliland, a country in the Horn of Africa that has been independent since 1991 but is not recognised by the international community. It was during the 1980s, when she was involved in the terrible war against the dictatorship, that she earned the nickname ‘Halgan’, the fighter, and her songs won the hearts of an entire people forever. Exiled to France, it was in Lyon that she founded her group with Aymeric Krol (BKO), Maël Salètes (Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp, L’étrangleuse) and Régis Monte.
Her third album, Hiddo Dhawr (‘Preserve the culture’), is the fruit of a sincere search for authenticity and innovation, an unprecedented alliance between Somali song and original rock, enriching the most unexpected landscapes of the world sound with her inspiration.
