Sakina Abdou offers a saxophone solo, as on “goodbye Ground”, a 2022 album recorded at the invitation of New York avant-garde label Relative Pitch Records. We’re guessing that America won’t stop there in adopting this artist, who evokes the blues, Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane or Ornette Coleman, in a highly personal expression. For she also cultivates a taste for encounters and experimentation, in France and Europe, on flute and tenor, alto and other saxophones. A discreet path that has gradually led her to become one of the rising stars of contemporary jazz. Doubtless also because she doesn’t cheat, breathes intimacy, allows herself fury as well as tremors, accepts the sufferings of the soul and touches grace.
