Susana Santos Silva & Fred Frith + Mire

Susana Santos Silva & Fred Frith + Mire
A summit duet between legendary British guitarist Fred Frith and Susana Santos Silva, one of the most talked-about trumpeters on the world improvised music scene.

This duo has been a long time coming. After meeting at a workshop in Porto in 2011, Susana took part in several of Fred’s projects. First in a quartet with Chris Cutler and Heike Liss in Zagreb, then as a soloist with Okkyung Lee, Lotte Anker and Christine Wodrascka, in TaTaTa with the Hessische Rundfunk Big Band, and more recently on tour with the Fred Frith Trio and Heike Liss in Brazil, Europe and the United States. When the Météo festival proposed the duo in 2021, it seemed a logical step, and the recording of this first concert at Radio France, subsequently released on the Rogu’Art label, received rave reviews. This tour will be an opportunity for Fred and Susana to deepen their profound relationship and explore the infinite potential of a rather unusual instrumental duo.

What the press had to say:

‘A dark, animated conversation of deep introspection and cathartic exorcism; magnificent!’ Squidco

‘An encounter in improvisational heaven’.
Jazz Times

Mire
Mire is a chamber music of chiaroscuro, where the acoustic timbres of the strings rub up against the precision mechanics of the electromagnetic piano. Their sonorities form a rugged landscape in which broken rocks, high-voltage crackling and the misty melodies of instruments stretched out in vanishing lines intertwine.

With Maria Laurent (pianet & effects), Merve Salgar (tanbur) and Stéphane Clor (piccolo cello).

The Strasbourg-based trio combines influences from traditional […]
