Y-Otis + Obradovic-Tixier Duo
Y-Otis
Swedish saxophonist Otis Sandsjö, accompanied by bassist and producer Petter Eldh (Koma Saxo) and keyboardist Dan Nicholls, push the boundaries of their innovative vision of liquid jazz. Both hybrid and avant-garde, Y-OTIS blend a wealth of musical influences. After a highly acclaimed self-titled debut album in 2018, Sandsjö confirmed their talent in 2020 with Y-OTIS 2, released on the respected Helsinki-based label We Jazz Records.
Y-OTIS’ sound can be described as an “audio mosaic” combining a selection of micro-ambiences, inspired as much by hip-hop and electronica as by jazz. This complex, multi-layered approach creates music that is both avant-garde and captivating. His distinctive circular-breathing playing technique allows him to explore a ‘modular’ method in which the saxophone becomes a tool for blurring the boundaries between musical genres.
Obradovic-Tixier Duo
The ‘Obradovic – Tixier Duo’ is an original project born of the collaboration between French pianist David Tixier and Croatian drummer Lada Obradovic. The drum/piano formula is highly original, to say the least. With melodies that are by turns seductive and heady, steady rhythms and haunting grooves, Lada Obradovic and David Tixier form a duo on the razor’s edge. Double entente. Intertwining sounds, weaving emotions.
The duo will be on hand to support Jiggled Juggler, their new album due out in March 2025 on Somewhere Beyond Records.
The Y-Otis concert is organised as part of Better Live, a project co-funded by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme.
